Acne Free Skin

The Levulan® Photodynamic Therapy System is a 2-part process that utilizes both the Levulan® Kerastick® topical solution and the DermaLaser, or IPL Light Treatment.  This procedure can be used to treat acne, Actinic Keratoses (AK), sun damaged skin, oily skin and Sebaceous Hyperplasia.

How does the Levulan® PDT System work?

The first step is to have a Levulan® Kerastick® topical solution applied to the region of hyperpigmentation or acne and the individual Actinic Keratoses on the skin.  This solution makes the acne or Actinic Keratoses more sensitive to light, which prepares the skin for the second step in the process.

After leaving the topical solution on the skin for, therapy continues with a DermaLaser or IPL Light Treatment.  A  Light Treatment session lasts 4-20minutes and can cause minimal discomfort because of the nature of the Levulan® Kerastick® topical solution.  This discomfort usually improves immediately after treatment and ends within 24 hours.

After treatment is completed, almost all patients experience some temporary reddening and some patients experience swelling of the acne, Actinic Keratoses and the surrounding skin.  Generally all reddening is gone by 1 week after treatment and swelling is reduced or non-existent after 1-5 days.BefBbeorelev.png After

DermaLASER™
DermaLaser
The Erchonia DermaLASER™ is the FIRST and ONLY Low Level Laser (3LT®) to be given FDA market clearance for the treatment of acne.

The Erchonia DermaLASER™ is a low-level, or cold, laser that works by killing the bacteria P. Acnes that causes acne. Unlike current acne-laser treatments, the Erchonia DermaLASER™ is not high density, or hot, so it does not irritate or adversely affect the healthy skin cells. The Erchonia DermaLASER™ targets only the acne-causing bacteria itself, not the skin, so it effectively treats the cause of acne at its root.

Up until now, people with acne have had to rely on strong antibiotic treatments lasting several months, harsh topical ointments that can irritate and severely dry out the skin or hot lasers that cause redness and pain. 30 years of research shows that side affects from low-level laser treatments of all kinds are minimal to non-existent and the DermaLASER™ is no exception.

"This FDA market clearance is a major step forward in the fight against acne and the misery it causes teens and adults alike," comments Charlie Shanks, VP of Sales and Marketing for Erchonia Medical. "For the first time it is possible to painlessly and quickly treat the root causes of acne, instead of the usual symptomatic treatments of messy ointments and creams."
